CANDLE CARE GUIDE

Get the most from your Luminessence candle

Our candles are handcrafted in small batches, and a little care will help you enjoy a beautiful, even and long-lasting burn.

1. CREATE THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT

Always burn your candle in a well-ventilated room, away from drafts, open windows, fans and air-conditioning.

Drafts can cause an uneven flame, sooting and rapid or uneven burning.

Never leave a burning candle unattended and always keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire.

2. THE FIRST BURN MATTERS

Allow the first burn to create an even melt pool across the surface of the wax, reaching close to the edges of the vessel.

This helps prevent tunnelling and allows your candle to burn more evenly throughout its life.

As a general guide:

  • Small / Travel candles: approximately 2 hours

  • Medium candles: approximately 2–3 hours

  • 3-wick & Luxury candles: approximately 3–4 hours

Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.

Never leave a candle burning unattended.

3. TRIM THE WICK ~  BUT DO NOT OVER - TRIM

Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately:

  • 5mm for small / travel candles

  • 10mm for medium and larger candles

Remove any loose wick debris or soot before lighting.

Keeping the wick trimmed helps maintain a steady flame and can reduce smoking and soot.

Do not over-trim the wick. A wick that is too short may struggle to maintain a steady flame and can contribute to an uneven or incomplete melt pool.

4. KEEP THE WICK CENTRED

After extinguishing the flame and while the wax is still soft, gently re-centre and straighten the wick if necessary.

Allow the wax to cool and solidify before moving the candle.

5. KNOW WHEN TO STOP

For safety, stop burning the candle when approximately 10mm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

Never burn a candle all the way to the base, as this may cause the vessel to overheat.

6. LOOK AFTER YOUR CANDLE

When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

Avoid exposing candles to extreme temperatures.

Prolonged exposure to extreme cold or heat can affect the wax, vessel and fragrance. If your candle has been exposed to very cold temperatures, allow it to return gradually to room temperature before burning.

7. ENJOY WITHIN 12 MONTHS

For the best fragrance experience, we recommend enjoying your candle within 12 months of purchase and storing it correctly when not in use.

A NOTE ABOUT HANDCRAFTED PRODUCTS

Because our candles are handcrafted in small batches, slight variations in colour, texture and appearance may occur. These natural variations are part of the character and charm of handmade products.

Burn time will vary between candles depending on their size, fragrance composition, environment and how they are cared for.

Light mindfully. Burn safely. Enjoy your Luminessence ritual.
